Durgacharit Natak was composed by Mahamahopadhyaya Parmeshwar Jha (1856-1924). The edited version of the drama Durgacharit Natak was republished by Dr Ramdeo Jha in 1996. The book is based on Durgasaptasati depicting assassination of Mahishasur by Goddess Durga. A native of Tarauni village of Darbhanga district of Mithila Mahamahopadhyaya served in various princely estates. He last joined the Raj Darbhanga sometimes around 1898 and remained associated till his death. He was considered as last authority on religious rituals of Mithila. Besides he was a grammarian and philosopher. Mahamahopadhyaya is an honorific title given to prestigious scholars by the \British Raj, and before them, by the kings of ancient India. His book Mithila Tatwa Vimarsha deals with history of Mithila.
