Ugnaka Dayadwad (Kinsmen of Ugna) is a Maithili novel by celebrated Maithili author and scholar Surendra Jha Suman published in 1989.  The author picked title of this novel from popular myth of Mithila which says that Lord Shiva pleased with devotion of Mahakavi Vidyapati (1360- 1440) incarnated himself as a human being Ugna to serve as servant of Lord Vidyapati.   Author Surendra Jha Suman has thoroughly quoted poet Vidyapati in his novel who is the household name in Mithila and also the centrestage of spiritual life of people.   “Kinsmen of Ugna” is the story of protagonist Tulsi born and brought-up in a backward caste. But despite caste hindrance coupled with poverty where Tulsi had several encounters with social inequality he set an example for others and became voice of voiceless of subjugated section of the society.
