Description

Late Upendra Nath Jha Vyas (1917-2002) is a well-known face of Maithili literature. A distinguish novelist, poet, translator his literary career spans nearly seven decades. Vyas was native is Haripur Bakshi Tole in Madhubani district of Mithila in Bihar. A technocrat by profession he was inspired by the writing of Ramanath Jha. Vyas started his literary career in 1939 and composed a verse Vidyapati Mrityu. He was conferred with Sahitya Akademi award for his novelette Du Patra written in Maithili. Credited with a number of original literary works in Maithili; Vyas was instrumental behind translating number of Bengali literature books in Maithili. He translated a number of novels of Saratchandra in Maithili like ‘Bamuner Meye’ published in Maithili as Babhanak Beti, Shreekant; the first part of Sharat’s novel Shreekant.
