Description

Washington, D.C.: Center for International Research / U.S. Bureau of the Census, 1988. — 264 p. — (CIR Staff Papers, №42)This bibliography contains references to over 2000 Soviet statistical handbooks known to have been published since the mid-1950s. This is the fourth version of such a bibliography compiled by the Center for International Research (formerly Foreign Demographic Analysis Division), but the first to include national, International, and foreign trade handbooks. References to 299 national and 136 international handbooks are included in addition to the republic and regional handbooks published since the last edition. Data on the tirazh (number of copies) and price of each handbook also are included in this edition. A geographical index and three summary tables have been added (as appendixes) in order to make the bibliography easier to use.The bibliography is divided into 18 chapters, 1 for the USSR, 1 for each of the 15 union republics, 1 for Central Asia, and 1 for international handbooks. Each chapter is divided into sections according to the type of handbook. With the exception of the chapter on international handbooks, each numbered section contains the same type of handbooks from chapter to chapter. For example, section 1 contains general handbooks and section 14 contains agricultural handbooks. This was done so that a researcher who wanted to quickly find all the handbooks on a particular topic could simply look in the appropriate section number in the first 17 chapters. Sections numbers 30 to 39 are reserved for the new branch of topical handbooks that might be published. Section numbers 45 to 49 are reserved for new regional (other than the RSFSR and the Ukrainian SSR) handbooks that might be published. This also means that each chapter does not contain each numbered section if a handbook on a certain topic has never been published for a particular republic.ContentsSummaryPrefaceIntroductionDetailed Table of ContentsUSSRRSFSRUkrainian SSRBelorussian SSRMoldavian SSR.Estonian SSRLatvian SSR.Lithuanian SSRArmenian SSRAzerbaydzhan SSRGeorgian SSRKazakh SSRKirgiz SSRTadzhik SSRTurkmen SSRUzbek SSRCentral AsiaInternational HandbooksAppendixes
