The works of I. V. Michurin. both his complete works andvarious miscellanies, have been published in many editions inthe Russian language.Taking into account the enormous world-wide interest inthe teaching of I. V. Michurin, especially in connection with thework of the session of the Lenin Academy of AgriculturalSciences of the U.S.S.R. held in July-August 1948, whereAcademician Lysenko's report "On the Situation in BiologicalScience," was discussed, the Foreign Languages PublishingHouse considers it timely to publish selected works of I. V. Michurin,so as to afford the foreign reader an opportunity toacquaint himself with them.The present volume inoludes a part of Michurin’s theoreticaland methodological works, pomological descriptions of a numberof varieties bred by him and a series of articles reflecting thegreat public activity of this remarkable scientist.For the convenience of the readers the articles are arrangedaccording to theme; within the thematic sections they are givenin chronological order.
