Shiva promised the rishi (sage) that they would both take human form and be born thrice in the Bharadwaja lineage or gothra (religious kin group): Shiva alone at Shirdi, as Sai Baba; Shiva and Shakti together at Puttaparthi, as Sathya Sai Baba; and then Shakti alone as Prema Sai.' Further, in expiation of an illness that Bharadwaja had suffered at Kailas, Shiva made another promise: "This Shakti will suffer the stroke for eight days when we both take birth as Sathya Sai, and on the eighth day …”No reply should be given to words of the wicked. Be at a great distance from them; that is for your good. Break off all relations with such people.Do not tell me that you do not care for that bliss, that you are satisfied with the delusion and are not willing to undergo the rigors of sleeplessness. Your basic nature, believe me, abhors this dull, dreary routine of eating, drinking and sleeping. It seeks something which it knows it has lost— santhi, inward contentment. It seeks liberation from bondage to the trivial and the temporary. Everyone craves for it in his heart of hearts.
