Description

Liturgies of Resistance: The Flattened Creed Readings:Galatians 3:27-29; Romans 10:12; 1 Corinthians 12:12-14The Oldest Cliché, from Stephen J. Patterson’s The Forgotten Creed: Christianity’s Original Struggle against Bigotry, Slavery, & Sexism (2018) Christianity began as an experiment in radical inclusiveness and grassroots liberation from Empire. Then, within two short generations, the church started to back away from those principles. While retaining the prayer “your kin-dom come, on earth as it is in heaven,” the church began to morph into the very empire it had set out to resist. This series explores three primary texts of the early church that represent the radical nature of what it meant to be a follower of Jesus. The verdict is out on the church today. What would it mean to adopt these early Christian liturgies of resistance for our own faith journeys now? Presented by Trinity Church of AustinOpen Hearts. Open Minds. Open Doors. No Exceptions.
