The English composer Clive Strutt completed his twelfth book of madrigals 'Propempticon Songs of Farewell' in 2016. There are 16 pieces set for SATB choir and the words are those of 13 different poets, viz. Richard Watson Dixon, George Wither, George Herbert, Christopher Marlowe, Sir Walter Raleigh, Christina Rossetti, John Fletcher, H. Austin Dobson, W. E. Henley, Algernon Charles Swinburne, Samuel Daniel, Queen Anne Boleyn and Lord Rochford.    Particularly noteworthy in this set of madrigals are two Triptychs, one entitled On Love and the other Sleep. Also interesting is Madrigal 4 which is a setting of Herbert's 'echo' poem and Madrigal 9 Protasis, Lament and Epitaph which brings together Stanzas composed by Anne Boleyn after her condemnation to death with 'Epitaph Farewell, my Lute' by her brother Lord Rochford, composed on the eve of his execution.
