Description

Second Set of the Nobilities Quadrilles, Containing 1) Giovinette 2) Fin Chal Dal Vino 3) Riposati Sazzose Ragazze 4) La Ci Darem 5) Cinderella 6) Mien Leibster Waltz, as Performed at Carlton Palace, the Pavillion, Almack's, The Argyll Rooms, and all the Nobilities Balls, arranged for the Piano Forte or Harp, by T.W. Lloyd. In 1822 George Shade comissioned and published this second set of Nobilities Quadrilles, he had previously issued a first set in 1821. This second publication was composed by T.W. Lloyd. The first set can be found here: https://archive.org/details/shades-1st-nobilities-quadrilles .This set of quadrilles are approximately what one would expect of a publication from 1822, they don't stand out from the many dozens of similar publications issued in London at around the same date. The cover claims that these Quadrilles were "as performed" at several important London dance venues, that claim probably refers to the dance figures rather than to the music however. These quadrilles were arranged to be compatable with figures of the "First Set" of Quadrilles (sometimes referred to as "the first set of Quadrilles to be danced in Britain") as published from late 1815 or early 1816 by Edward Payne, James Paine and others. Most Quadrille sets published in the early 1820s were similarly structured.George Shade ran a music shop in Soho Square. He advertised this collection to be available for sale for 2s in the St. James Chronicle & Evening Post for the 4th of June 1822. Whereas the price advertised on the cover is 3s.
