Description

Generally referred to today as Official Declaration 1. This 1890 manifesto publicly declared the end to the official LDS practice of polygamy. According to the document, President Woodruff felt called to issue it and the Spirit was upon him while he was writing it. Reference is made to D&C 124:49 as the justification for the manifesto. The document also contains the famous phrase about the prophet never leading the people astray.
